Certifications & Awards

First Taekwondo is the very best place in the Chandler area for kids and families to develop character, physical fitness, and self-defense skills. Our customers tell us this all of the time and it is evident from the awards and certifications we’ve received over the years — as described below.

USA Taekwondo

USA Taekwondo (USAT) is the national governing body (NGB) of Taekwondo for the United States Olympic Committee.

Taekwondo and the Olympic Games

The object of Taekwondo is to land kicks and punches on your opponent’s scoring zones: one point is awarded for a valid kick or punch to the torso, two points for a valid spinning kick, three points for a valid kick to the head and four points for a turning kick to the head.

The action takes place inside an 8m x 8m ring, with each contest made up of three two-minute rounds. Over their standard white uniform, known as a ‘Dobok’, competitors wear colored protective equipment. The competitor wearing blue is referred to as ‘Chung’, while the competitor in red is ‘Hong’.

World Taekwondo

World Taekwondo (WT) is the International Federation (IF) governing the sport of Taekwondo and is a member of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC). WT leads the most inclusive and accessible combat sport, which combines the values of an ancient Asian heritage with the values of a global elite sport. Taekwondo evolves on a solid base, mixing the traditional and the modern. The values recognized by practitioners and partners are the strength of our sport. They are distilled from those found in our society: the search for pleasure, surpassing oneself, perseverance, moral and physical strength, and respect for others.

American Sabumnim Association

American Sabumnim Association

The American Sabumnim Association (ASA) is a global network of professional martial arts schools dedicated to raising the standards of the martial arts industry through self-regulation.

ASA offers a number of certifications that provide evidence that a martial arts school meets ASA’s demanding standards.

We are proud that we’ve earned several of these certifications and, as a charter member of ASA, we are committed to working with other members to ensure that martial arts is viewed at the #1 activity for kids and families.
